The Colorado Rockies’ website opened for business this morning at 10 a.m. to sell World Series tickets. Did you get any? Me neither.

I logged on at 11:00 a.m. Using three computers, I could get to the Rockies site and the “buy ticket” page in no time. But when I clicked on the “buy tickets” link for a particular game, the page didn’t load. I tried IE and Firefox, used a pc and a Mac, no dice.

I wasn’t the only one. There was a ticket meltdown.

Blasted by a chorus of furious boos, Colorado Rockies officials suspended World Series ticket sales early this afternoon until computer server problems are fixed.

“Virtually the entire allotment of tickets that were on sale are still available,” Rockies spokesman Jay Alves said at Coors Field as fans chanted: “We want tickets! We want tickets!” “We certainly hope to have it back here shortly,” Alves said.

The company selling the tickets claims to be surprised:

Paciolan Inc., which provides ticketing networks to Major League Baseball and 700 college and professional teams, was “amazed and overwhelmed” when it was flooded by 8.5 million hits for tickets in 90 minutes, Alves said.
