The Colorado Rockies have been anything but stellar on their current road trip, dropping another game yesterday to the marginal Florida Marlins and falling 4.5 games behind the San Diego Padres for the division lead. Yesterday’s game was indicative of the Rockies’ recent bumbling, coming just a couple hits or a couple good pitches away from a win. The Rockies found a way to hold their own against Florida’s Josh Johnson—one of the game’s best pitchers—taking a tie into the ninth inning. But then the Rockies’ Jhoulys Chacin let the Marlins load the bases and gave up a single that ended the game (recap via The Denver Post). The poor play obscures the fact that pitcher Jorge De La Rosa had his first good performance on the mound since recovering from a lengthy finger injury. Denver Daily News reports that De La Rosa (pictured) gave up just three hits over seven innings, showing signs he may be getting back to the form he showed last year en route to his best season ever. De La Rosa had previously given up seven runs in each of the two last games he started.
