Everyone has felt it at one time or another: the shock of hearing that a dear friend is moving, or that your work spouse is leaving you for another gig, or that one of your favorite restaurants is closing for renovations. The last is how you may feel right about now because—news alert—Scandinavian-inspired Call on Larimer Street is, well, closing for renovations.
“After two years, it’s time to reinvest in Call to make it into the restaurant it’s supposed to be,” says co-owner Craig Lieberman. “We’ve struggled with seating capacity since the beginning, and it’ll be great to reconfigure the space to give our guests—and our staff—more room.” Architect Kevin Nguyen (Regular Architecture) is currently drawing up plans to remodel the tiny house.

“We want to be a destination when it’s snowing, too,” says Allison Anderson, Call’s director of experience, referring to the fact that the cafe’s patio holds more people than the 650-square-foot interior. “We were being forced to think about Call as a seasonal business, which is ridiculous in one of Denver’s hottest neighborhoods.”
So, as of 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, Call will be closed until spring 2020. Lieberman and the team will post updates on the re-opening on Instagram, and 5280 will report on it when the time is near.
In the meantime, console yourself with a few more weeks of tasty tartines and turmeric tonics and æbelskiver before Call goes on hiatus. Even better, book a seat at high-end sibling restaurant Beckon, which is moving to five nights of dinner service each week starting the last week of October; stay tuned to its Instagram to find out which day of the week that extra service will fall upon.
