The Rocky Mountain News reports a plea deal may be in the works for Lisl Auman. Auman is awaiting retrial on felony murder charges for the killing of Denver Police officer Bruce VanderJagt. The Colorado Supreme Court overturned her conviction and ordered a new trial.

Lisl Auman, who is serving a life sentence for one of Denver’s most notorious cop-killings, is expected to appear in court at 1 p.m. today to announce whether she has agreed to a plea bargain that could see her released from prison, likely to a term in community corrections, sometime within the next year.

If Lisl accepts the deal, she would get credit for time served and serve any remaining time at a half-way house.

The plea bargain would give her a sentence that includes credit for time served and good behavior. Community corrections typically involves a stay at a halfway house followed by stringent supervision by probation officials.

It would be a wise decision for both the Denver D.A. and Auman, who has already served seven years for a murder committed while she was handcuffed in the back of a patrol car.
