Najibullah Zazi, the Aurora airport-shuttle driver who pleaded guilty earlier this year to plotting a terror attack in New York that would have been the worst incident since 9/11, was allegedly associated with others who were planning to strike in Britain. That’s according to several news organizations, including USA Today, which reports that Zazi’s links to al-Qaida seem clearer than ever, despite Zazi’s initial story last September that he was not a terrorist and did not plan to harm anyone (via 9News and The Associated Press). An indictment, unsealed Wednesday in a federal court in Brooklyn, adds several al-Qaida suspects to the probe, including Adnan Shukrijumah, who is on the FBI’s most-wanted terrorist list. Abid Naseer, Tariq Ur Rehman, and an alleged terrorist operative known as “Ahmad” were linked by prosecutors to the previously undisclosed goal of attacking England with weapons of mass destruction. Shukrijumah and Ahmad are alleged to have recruited Zazi and others (including another man who has pleaded guilty) from Queens, New York, in 2008 to receive training from al-Qaida in the Waziristan region of Pakistan.
