Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper takes center stage tonight at the Democratic National Convention with a six-minute primetime speech. Hickenlooper hasn’t revealed what he will say in Charlotte, N.C., but his handlers have indicated that he will keep a positive tone.
Hickenlooper is scheduled to speak between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., Mountain Standard Time. He’ll make his case for President Barack Obama, whom Hickenlooper has stumped for in the past. (It’s the second time Hickenlooper has talked at the DNC. In 2008, he spoke for nearly four minutes.)
For Hickenlooper, the scheduling spot represents his chance to further introduce himself to the nationwide electorate. Much like Florida Republican Sen. Mark Rubio—who gave a prime-time speech at the Republican convention last week—Hickenlooper is considered a name to remember for future presidential contests.
The governor is one of six Coloradans who will speak at the convention this year. Four, including Boulder Congressman Jared Polis, spoke on Tuesday. To learn more about Hickenlooper, read Max Potter’s profile of him here.
