Brandon Darnell Smith, 20, has been charged with robbery and third-degree assault after allegedly yanking a shopping bag containing a new iPad away from Bill Jordan, causing the need for part of his finger to be amputated. Smith was formally charged yesterday in the April 15 incident at the Cherry Creek Mall, according to Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey (via 7 News). Police arrested Smith during a traffic stop Saturday on the 3000 block of North Monaco Street. Investigators believe Smith and another man stalked Jordan in the mall before deciding to target him for the theft that made headlines around the nation. Smith is now being held at the Denver County Jail on a $200,000 bond and is expected to appear in court Friday to be advised of the charges against him. As for Jordan, 59, he is expected to need therapy to adjust to life with use of one less finger.
