This morning, University of Colorado Denver students, faculty, and staff were invited to sign a steel beam that will be placed inside the CU Denver’s new building on the Auraria Campus. The academic structure (you’ve probably noticed its construction at Speer and Larimer streets) is the first to be built, owned, and dedicated specifically to CU Denver. It’s also one of the many milestones the university has had this year, including its 40th anniversary.
After the beam was signed, it became a support column in the highest structural point of the new building, in a ceremony known as a building’s “topping out.” The building is scheduled for completion in July 2014. But for now, it has a winter layer on top.
