National Taco Day: Tuesday is National Taco Day and R Taco of Arvada and Littleton will be celebrating by donating 10 percent of their food and non-alcoholic beverage sales to the Food Bank of the Rockies and giving away merchandise. They will also be donating $1 for each check-in on the restaurant’s Yelp and Facebook page. “Millions of Americans live with food insecurity, and we hope to help those in our communities while raising awareness and inviting our customers to participate on this food-focused holiday,” said Steve Dunn, CEO of R Taco. Tee-It-Up For PTSD Awareness: Mountain Time Media’s latest film, ACRONYM: The Cross-Generational Battle With PTSD, was created with the hopes of reducing the 22 suicides a day among our veteran population by presenting alternative therapies and sharing veterans’ stories about war. Second Wind Walk/Run: In 2002, after a community lost four students to suicide in the same school year, Second Wind Fund held an event to pay for professional therapy for kids and teens at risk of suicide. Today, they have helped more than 4,200 youth in Colorado. On October 8, they will mark their 15th annual Second Wind Walk/Run event at Clement Park in Littleton. Support at-risk youth by registering for the morning 5K run/walk walk around Johnson Reservoir. Bidding for a silent auction will take place on their website up until the day of the event, where live music, BBQ, speakers, and a dove release will commemorate the lives lost. Clementine’s Salon: In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Clementine’s Salon in LoHi will be selling products to benefit cancer research. Five dollars will be donated to Susan G. Komen Colorado for every purchase of Sara Happ peony, grapefruit, or passion fruit sugar scrub, and $5 will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation for every Bumble & Bumble Pret-a-powder product sold. Wazee Supper Club: This landmark restaurant, established in 1974 in LoDo, will be supporting women with breast cancer by offering specialty pizzas throughout the month of October. Funds from their “Pink Ribbon Pizza” will be donated to Casting for Recovery—an organization that provides therapeutic fly-fishing retreats paired with education and peer support for women with breast cancer. One dollar will be donated for every small pizza, $1.50 for every medium pizza, and $2 for every large pizza. Garlic cream sauce, goat cheese, beets, mozzarella, artichoke hearts, and a light balsamic drizzle tops this pink pizza (it has a natural beet-infused crust for color).
