Native Seed Collection at Wonderland Lake: Volunteers are needed to help Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks collect seeds from a native plant called blue flax. The seeds will be saved for future use on prairie restoration projects. Blue flax has value in erosion control, beautification, and forage for livestock and wildlife. Habitat for Humanity Hammer ‘n’ Ales: Sample beer and food pairings from local restaurants, get a picture with the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales, and peruse a silent auction all for a good cause. The event benefits Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity, a group dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in the area and worldwide. Tickets are $40 each or $75 for couples. Colorado Pilots for Christ Concert & Auction: Enjoy a truly unique local music experience and raise money for a good cause. Acoustic Eidolon, a Colorado duo featuring Hannah Alkire on cello and Joe Scott on a double-neck guitar/banjo combo, will perform a concert (with additional silent auction) to benefit the Colorado chapter of Pilots for Christ, an organization that provides air transportation to those in medical ad financial need. International Hearing Dog, Inc. Walk, Run & Wag 5K: If you love walking or running with a four-legged friend, this is the race for you. IHDI is organizing this family- and pet-friendly event at Sloan’s Lake Park to raise money for its programs, which train and place hearing dogs throughout the U.S. and Canada. Participants will be able to run with dogs on leashes at 8 a.m., and a kids fun run will take place at 10 a.m. Day-of registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, 8 a.m.; $25, Sloan’s Lake Park, Sheridan Ave & West 17th Ave.
Project C.U.R.E. Volunteer Event: For those looking for an indoor volunteer opportunity, Project Helping and Project C.U.R.E. need volunteers to help sort and package medical supplies to ship around the world to those in need. The supplies prepared in three hours can support a village of 400 for an entire year. Volunteers will receive a Project Helping T-shirt. Closed-toe shoes are required for this opportunity. DogFest Walk ‘n Roll Vail Valley: Enjoy a scenic walk and a celebration with activities for the whole family—Fido included—at Freedom Park in Edwards. The event will benefit Canine Companions for Independence, an organization that provides highly trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities free of charge.
