Causes to Care About
The American Red Cross: Extreme flooding ripped through the state of Louisiana last week, displacing and devastating tens of thousands. Do your part to help those displaced by the natural disaster—which is considered to be the worst natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy—with a donation to the American Red Cross. Your donation will help fund supplies like water, food, shelter, and medical care for flood victims, as well as supporting Red Cross volunteers who have been brought in to help with the relief efforts. To contribute, call 1-800-RedCross, donate online, or text a $10 donation (charged to your cell phone bill) by sending LAFLOODS to 90999. Want to do more? Sign up to volunteer in your local Red Cross chapter to help fill in for volunteers who have been deployed to the disaster area.
Events to Attend
Flatirons Cragmoor Connector Trail Restoration: Join Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, an organization that completes outdoor stewardship projects all over the state, for a day of work to help repair this popular Boulder trail. You’ll help construct fences and steps and install drainage equipment, all with a beautiful view of the Flatirons. If you’re new to trail restoration, don’t worry—no experience is necessary to help keep Colorado beautiful. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Cragmoor Connector Trail, Boulder; free
The Color Run Tropicolor: This island-themed race is good for your body and your community. On the road to the finish line you’ll be splashed with clouds of vivid tropical colors as you pass palm trees and blow-up arches. The Pop Ups Children’s Concert Fundraiser: Grammy-nominated duo The Pop Ups has toured the nation with kid favorites like Yo Gabba Gabba, so your little tikes are sure to love this rock-inspired puppet musical. The show benefits the Mwebaza Foundation, a nonprofit that helps Colorado’s African partner schools develop and improve educational opportunities for students. Saturday, 1 p.m.; Broomfield Auditorium, 3 Community Park Rd., Broomfield; $12.50
