This week’s opportunities to give back will have you shaking, shimmying, stirring, and scaring (among other things). Work on your film chops, update your style, or enjoy a cocktail and feel good about every minute of it.

TallGrass Cut-a-Thon: In need of a trim? Stop by TallGrass Aveda Spa and Salon in Evergreen for the shop’s annual Cut-a-Thon. Cuts are $1/minute with 30-minute dry-cut and 60-minute shampoo and styling options. Stanley Film Festival: Horror fans can trek to Estes Park’s famous Stanley Hotel to have a role in this frightful film event. While the flicks don’t start until the weekend of April 30, volunteer trainings kick off April 6 in Denver. Additional trainings are available April 11 in Estes Park, April 13 in Boulder, and April 18 in Denver. Volunteers can opt for behind-the-scenes activities, like set building or manning the filmmakers’ lounge, or simpler gigs like ushering. For every three-to-five hour shift you work, the Denver Film Society offers a free film voucher, good for the festival’s frightening flicks or other DFS productions. Monday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Sie FilmCenter, 2510 E. Colfax Ave.

Political rappers The Flobots ( of “Handlebars” fame) will perform with the 303 Choir, and eclectic hip-hop local Kid Astronaut will round out the night’s entertainment. Check out exhibits from more than 35 artists that speak to “Threads of Commonality,” linking viewers to the perspectives of refugees.
