Open: Lala’s Wine Bar & Pizzeria

Last week, a pizza craving took me to the month-old Lala’s Wine Bar & Pizzeria on the corner of Seventh and Logan. The restaurant is the newest spot from the owners of Govnr’s Park, Marlowe’s, Paramount Cafe, and Caldonia’s, but don’t expect the same type of pub grub. Lala’s stands on its own with thin-crusted pizzas, piadines (open-faced sandwiches served on flat-bread), fresh salads, and Italian-inspired appetizers.
The homemade burrata–though not up to the standard set by Osteria Marco–is tasty, especially when spread over the excellent flat-bread with olive oil, coarse salt, and rosemary. Our pick for dinner is the Il David, a white pizza topped with herb-grilled chicken, oven-dried tomatoes, and melty roasted garlic and red peppers.
With good food and a polished, neighborhood vibe, we think the ill-fated address–once home to Transalpin, JV’s the Cork, Sacre Bleu, Vega, and Sparrow–has finally met its match. We have only one criticism: For billing itself as a wine bar, Lala’s lengthy by-the-glass selection feels a little uninspired. But, that’s something easily fixed. 410 E.
