Nicole Sullivan loved what her book club offered: friends, novels, wine, and plenty of appetizers. So when the Bookery Nook in Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood announced it was closing, Sullivan drafted a business plan and took over. The culinary school grad turned the bookstore/ice cream parlor into her own version of a book club hub. The result: Bookbar, a cool and cozy combination bookstore and wine bar with food—appetizers to desserts—designed for sharing.

The menu recalls sections of a book: Order coffee drinks and Teatulia teas from the Prologue; choose appetizers from the Introduction like “A Confederate of Charcuterie” and “A Portrait of a Cheese Plate” (with daily selections from the Truffle Cheese Shop); crostini, pizzetta, tea sandwiches, and a kids’ menu from Chapters 1,2, 3, and 4; and a strong, well-honed list of Colorado beers and global wines in the Epilogue.

Make your selections and curl up with your favorite read. Finish with beautiful petit fours from La Patisserie Francaise (pictured) or a liquor-laced baum cake from Glaze: the Baum Cake Shoppe.
