Forget dusty volumes relegated to a cramped, dim study. In this Highlands Ranch house, a beautifully lit floor-to-ceiling library gets plenty of foot traffic—because it’s located on the central staircase’s ample landing. Interior designers Miranda Cullen and Devon Tobin, principals at Duet Design Group, dreamed up the unconventional placement for the Robbins family, who had just purchased their dream home. Kevin Dowling of Above the Grain created the custom bookshelves, which include a rod at the top to support a hip library ladder. To show off the space’s clean lines, the shelves hold some 500 tomes—and nothing else. Similarly, the designers skipped window treatments to maximize natural light, and custom Masland carpet in a bold print reinforces the area’s muted palette. The one pop of color comes from the sexy, hot pink Currey & Company chandelier. Hitting the books never looked better.
