Denver Broncos superfan and blogger James Owen hasn’t been shy about sharing his frustration over the potential NFL lockout and season cancellation next year—through Twitter, his website, and in an e-mail to the league. But when his phone rang on Tuesday, he was shocked to hear NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on the other end, writes the Denver Post. During a 15-minute “low-key” talk, Goodell thanked Owen for his concerns and told him the league and players aren’t forgetting about the fans amid their battle over a new collective bargaining agreement.
And a Bronco player received another exciting call recently: Cornerback Champ Bailey has been invited to play in his tenth Pro Bowl this weekend after another player backed out due to injury (also via the Post). The selection gives Bailey the record for most Pro Bowl appearances by a cornerback. The 32-year-old Denver fan favorite becomes a free agent this spring, but team officials have been lukewarm so far on re-signing him. Meanwhile, ESPN reports new Broncos head coach John Fox has finished hiring his staff, which will consist almost entirely of holdovers from the Josh McDaniels era, as well as some former assistants to Fox, from his time as head coach of the Carolina Panthers.
