Nothing says summer in Denver like cruising around your ‘hood on a set of wheels—two wheels, that is—that you dreamt up yourself. That’s why so many bike enthusiasts are enamored of Tyler Hardie’s year-old bike boutique, Pearl Velo, located just off the main Tennyson strip in Berkeley. With a vibe that harks back to childhood, the shop is a smorgasbord of all things bicycle, from vintage frames and hipster old-school handlebars to green tubes of Phil Wood grease, all with a decidedly retro—and Italian—feel. Take your pick of parts, and Hardie will custom-build you one of the sweetest rides, fixed gear or single speed, that you’ve ever had. Wait time is about seven to 10 business days, but when your bike’s built out, you’ll have a work of art—one that will take you wherever you want to go in style.
