Maybe it’s the improving economy or simply the area’s charm, but it seems that Cherry Creek North landlords are finally filling in their empty storefronts with new shops, salons, and restaurants. The Third Avenue block between St. Paul and Milwaukee is bustling with recent openings (like Mariel and J. Gilbert Footwear), but I’m most excited about Caribou, a chic extension of Golden’s Little Star Gallery. Here’s why:
Vibe: Southwestern style meets laid-back contemporary. Traditional elements like cozy leather club chairs and authentic Navajo rugs are mixed with sleek natural wood floors and glass cases for a relaxed but sophisticated city feel.
The Goods: For ladies looking to invest in tribal-inspired pieces, this is the place. You’ll find Western- and Native American-inspired jewelry and fine art crafted by local and regional artists like Alan and Jason Tiensvold, Robin Smith, and Denver-based Douglas Rich.
Spotlight: An artist who works in multiple mediums, the self-taught Rich actually designed the store concept, logo, and gallery fixtures. Caribou showcases his entire range of creative work, from lighting and furniture to paintings, sculpture, and jewelry. His designs range from clean and modern—a sterling silver bracelet with a simple medallion center ($650)—to intricate statement items like the Au Rouge coral and sterling silver necklace ($3,200; pictured top left).
My Five Must-Haves:
