For the wizened bar-hopper (or cheapskate), Denver has a solid selection of happy hours. There are two-for-one’s at Govnr’s Park Tavern, $3 drinks at our Top of the Town winner, Euclid Hall, and $1 oysters at Jax Fish House. All good spots, all good deals.
But I recently stumbled across a deal that’s hard to beat: $2 for 20-ounce Odell beers at Kaos Pizzeria on Old South Pearl Street. That’s an insane price for beer from our 2010 “Brewery of the Year.” That’s cheaper than a 16-ounce pint of beer at the actual brewery in Fort Collins ($4 to $5). That’s less than the per-ounce price of buying a six-pack of Odell beer on sale at Argonaut Wine & Liquor ($7.99) Hell, that’s almost as cheap—per ounce—as a 40-ounce Budweiser at Argonaut ($2.99). And instead of Bud, you’re drinking good beer—like the hoppy St. Lupulin or the summery Easy Street Wheat.
Sure, there are no food specials at Kaos, but you and a friend could split a small pie, grab a beer each, sit on the garden patio, and get out of there for less than $20.
Happy Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
