First, let’s talk about all the health reasons you should eat more almonds. They are high in monounsaturated fats which, like olive oil, can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. They also possess Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant; magnesium, which improves blood flow; and potassium, which helps protect against high blood pressure.
Okay, end of science lesson.
Now, let’s talk about Olomomo Nut Co. in Boulder. These small batch-roasted nuts are the polar opposite of the bland or over-salted grocery store variety. Instead, the almonds (Olomomo also sells pecans) are super-fresh and lightly flavored. There’s Cherry Vanilla (the playful and perennial favorite flavor combo); exotic Chai Bliss (with hints of fragrant cardamom); Mango Chipotle (which combines tangy, sweet, smoky, and salty in a crunchy new way); and my favorite, Righteous Cinnamon Cayenne. Here, the nuts are dusted with sweet sugar, aromatic cinnamon, and a tiny bit of red chile spice.
Olomomo are good anytime but, on impulse, I tried the cinnamon-cayenne at breakfast with a cup of hot chocolate and the early morning pairing was magnificent.
Look for bags of Olomomo nuts in these stores.
