Music Buzz: Audiovore

Colorado’s music scene is more than just the Fray and OneRepublic (though these breakout bands still hold a special place in our hearts). Need proof? Hometown folk-rockers the Lumineers were just nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best New Artist and Best Americana Album. And plenty of others—Churchill, Breathe Carolina, The Epilogues—are heating up airwaves across the country.

It seems like a new band worth listening to pops up every day. So how do you keep up? Check out Audiovore, a website that corrals Colorado musicians into one place. Launched last May in conjunction with Denver’s Mighty Fine Productions, the site offers an intimate, garage session-esque peek at local bands through videos, interviews, and photo slideshows. “I really was struck by the quality of the music coming out of Colorado,” says executive producer Erin Roberts, who helped start the online platform. “For a fan, [Audiovore] gives you a really authentic view of what the band is and what exactly they do.”

Content is updated weekly, if not more often. Concert geeks will particularly appreciate the various video series, including Release Me (bands perform a song or full album in the studio), Ours & Theirs (one original and one cover track), and Sound Check (live video from venues around Denver). And, it’s not all online. Last year, Audiovore teamed up with MCA Denver for Don’t Look Down, a series of public rooftop concerts.

Audiovore is a great resource for those already tuned into the local music scene as well as for those wanting to discover more. The best part: Many of the site’s performances are available for free download.
