Going Limp: The Colorado Rockies dropped another home series this weekend, this time against the last-place San Diego Padres. The Rockies have lost 1o of their last 13 games and have gone 9-16 since starting at 11-2 (Associated Press). Colorado is now a game-and-a-half behind San Francisco heading into a two-game set against the Giants at Coors Field.
Stage Identity: Presteve Theatre has arisen to “to help fill a presumed void in gay theater programming in Denver,” but Denver Post theater critic John Moore wonders if the city really needs a “gay theater” these days.
Colfax Crush: Despite a cool, rainy start—and the fact that he’s been pulling 12-hour nursing shifts the last few weeks—Nicholas Mockeridge crushed the previous Colfax Marathon record by more than six minutes (Denver Post). See the full results here.
Lacrosse the Mississippi: The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team made history Sunday by winning (and hosting) the first NCAA lacrosse playoff game west of the Mississippi River (DU Clarion). The Pioneers will head to New York to face Johns Hopkins next weekend.
Birther Bust: Terry Lakin, the U.S. Army doctor who refused to deploy to Afghanistan because he doesn’t believe President Obama is a U.S. citizen, was released from military confinement this weekend (7News). Supporters of the Greeley native were asked to donate to Lakin’s family, which is suffering financially as a result of his “commitment to the conspiracy” (Colorado Independent).
Second Coming: You might think Enrique Chigoya would be hesitant to show his art in Loveland after a crowbar-wielding woman smashed one of his works there last fall. But the California-based man is nearly finished with a portrait of Jesus Christ he’s painting for a local church (Reporter-Herald).
