An interesting postscript on Doug Dean, the former House Speaker, who we wrote about earlier today. Dean would later marry the woman whose home he was accused of breaking into. At the time, the Colorado Republican also said he was through with politics.

The fact that Dean has now been named to head the Public Utilities Commission might suggest a change of heart, but it’s not like many folks believed him back then.
State Republican Party chairman Bob Beauprez said he and Dean had several conversations about his leaving politics. Children were less a factor for Dean than his political future, Beauprez said. “He’s said it hasn’t been easy, it hasn’t been pretty,” Beauprez said. “When your private life becomes that public, you wonder what (political opponents) will do.”
