This afternoon, when Marcos Stoltzfus, youth education coordinator at the Butterfly Pavilions, packs his bags, he’ll be tucking in a few of his organization’s critters for his evening talk at MCA Denver. He’ll use the honeybees and cockroaches to tackle the daunting topic “Top 10 Influential Insects” and what it means to you (or what’s it to you, WITY).
He’ll show examples of the cochineal, a scaly species that is one of the few natural sources of red dye, and discuss Damien Hirst’s butterflies. While Stoltzfus speaks, the museum will serve up a bug-themed cocktail, and Stoltzfus himself will dish out chocolate-covered insects.
