Law-enforcement officers arrested one of their own over the weekend, after 48-year-old Mark Edwin Davis, a Denver Sheriff’s Office deputy, was accused of sexual assault on a child by a person in position of trust. A Denver police arrest affidavit has been sealed, but a spokesman for the department tells 7News that Davis, who has worked for more than 14 years as a jail officer, was placed on leave pending the results of an investigation launched in the wake of alleged abuses.
“Because of the nature of the investigation, detectives are concerned that Davis may have victimized other children over the years, some of which may be adults now,” Denver police say, adding that the suspected offenses did not occur while Davis was on duty.
Davis is not being held at the Denver jail, where he worked, but in Jefferson County instead, according to The Denver Post.
