With the start of the National Football League season and Major League Baseball headed for the playoffs, one championship-caliber team is flying under the radar in Denver. That won’t be the case for long, though, as the Nuggets prepare for their first preseason game October 1 in Utah against the Jazz. Team leaders continue to tinker with the roster, trading draft rights to the Houston Rockets for swingman James White, writes The Denver Post.

White, 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, hasn’t done much in his career (bio via NBA.com) and won’t make up for the hole left when backup forward Linas Kleiza left and signed with a European team. But White is incredibly athletic, as the YouTube video shows. Let’s hope that translates into some on-the-court success.

It’s been an interesting offseason for the Nuggets, who came a couple of stupid in-bound plays away from a trip to the NBA Finals.

The Denver Stiffs fan blog points out that a bunch of free agents the Nuggets brought in for workouts signed elsewhere, leaving very little good talent on the free-agent wire. The team’s bench last year was offensively capable of holding on to leads and even extending them, but the current bench seems to be primarily defensive, the Stiffs’ Nate Timmons writes.

The team begins regular-season play October 28, but the Nuggets may want to add some reserve firepower before then.
