We’ve all been there: You’re rushing to put on your makeup. As you’re finishing up applying your eye shadow, you accidentally drop your favorite four-color palette on the floor. Not only does each shade break into a bunch of little pieces, but you’ve also wasted at least $30.
If your first inclination is to throw the palette away and run out to buy a new one, then wait—there’s a better option. Denver esthetician and graphic designer Jill Rossini was so tired of tossing busted makeup that she created Fixy, a repair kit that lets you take those pulverized powders and press them into a new palette.
Here’s how it works: The Fixy kit comes with a blending box, grinding tool, and binding spray, all neatly housed in a pretty pink box. The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow and clearly lead you through the process of grinding your broken eye shadow or blush—Rossini says people have even used Fixy for highlighter and lipstick—and then filling a new pan and setting it with the binding spray. You may need to experiment with the process once or twice, but it’s easy to get the hang of it after a couple of tries.
The kit also contains a magnetic palette and three different sizes of magnetic makeup tins to create your own customized palette. And for all of you makeup DIYers, you can even combine different eye shadows or blush colors to create your own custom single-color or a unique multi-color petite tin à la Bobbi Brown’s Brick compact (if you need ideas, check out Fixy’s Instagram feed). Regardless of whether you use Fixy to repair broken makeup palettes or create entirely new ones, this is one innovative and money-saving tool to add to your beauty arsenal.
