Damn kids…Steve Szymanski thought 20 years ago, upon learning his car windows had been smashed by Denver teens. But instead of pressing charges, Szymanski decided to look at the incident as an opportunity and partnered with the police department to engage urban at-risk youth in something more constructive (and classically Coloradan): cycling. Today, his Front Rangers Cycling Club—which has grown from about 10 kids to 70—collects and transports Denver youth to trailheads once a month for volunteer-led rides on bikes donated by the Specialized bike company. “It’s hard to tell who enjoys the events most,” says club president Art Bollen. “The kids interacting with the adults or adults hanging out with the kids.” Get in on the fun by donating a bike or by volunteering to help lead a monthly ride. frontrangersdenver.org
