Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT), one of the compromise “Gang of 14,” spoke in Denver this weekend. He said he hadn’t yet made up his mind on the nomination of Judge Alito to the Supreme Court.
He said it was “too early to tell” whether Alito’s judicial record would reveal “extraordinary circumstances” that could warrant a Senate showdown. “I’ve only begun to look at his record,” said Lieberman, who plans to meet privately with the nominee Tuesday. “This is going to a long process.”

At this point, Lieberman said, he has no reason to believe that Judge Alito would vote to overturn Roe vs. Wade. But he said,
“If I conclude he’d overturn (the landmark Roe vs. Wade abortion ruling), it would weigh heavily on my decision.”
