It would be gratifying to say the University of Colorado football program’s Pac-12 Conference future looks bright, but after the University of California at Berkeley Bears ran over CU 52-7 earlier this year, the Buffs didn’t look like they’d be able to hang. If that’s the case, at least they’ll be losing in primarily warm and sunny locales. Tomorrow, the conference is expected to announce that CU and Utah will join the southern California (UCLA and USC) and Arizona teams in the Pac-12 South, meaning lots of games in Los Angeles and Arizona (via The Denver Post). CU athletic director Mike Bohn has said all along that the southern California schools are a key factor in CU accepting the Pac-12 invitation, given the high number of CU alums in that area.
Meanwhile, embattled head coach Dan Hawkins has the team playing decently this season, with CU sitting at 3-3, and could take the Buffs to a bowl game if he gets them to six wins. Several of the six remaining games look winnable, and postseason play is a possibility. Boulder’s Daily Camera writes that the players are focused on a bowl game rather than where they’ll play next year or who will be the coach, even if some fans secretly hope the Buffs lose in order to hasten Hawkins’ firing.
