CampusReform.org, which is in the process of reviewing 100 top U.S. universities and colleges to gauge their political climates, claims the University of Colorado has a liberal bias.

According to the group, that bias is evidenced by faculty donations to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and the fact that more Democratic groups than Republican groups currently exist on campus, writes Boulder’s Daily Camera.

The university’s faculty and staff gave $93,350 to Obama’s campaign and only $3,400 to his chief rival, Republican Senator John McCain, in the 2008 presidential election.

Melissa Hart, a CU law professor running as a Democrat for an at-large regent seat, is among Obama’s donors.

“It’s public record who I donate money to,” says Hart (pictured). “But, I don’t look at who my students donate money to. I teach students based on what the law is and what good lawyering is.”

Campus Reform believes that America’s colleges and universities are “dominated by liberals, and the University of Colorado at Boulder is no different.” CampusReform was created to “struggle against leftist bias and abuse on college campuses” by giving “conservatives powerful new weapons in their fight for the hearts and minds of the next generation of citizens, politicians, and members of the media.”

The group takes issue with numerous universities across the nation, including the predominantly African-American Howard University, George Washington University, and Virginia Tech, notes The Washington Post. Another 50 universities are expected to be reviewed by the group, as well.
