Updates continue to emerge surrounding the controversial plans for potential PAC-10 Conference growth, which is anticipated to include the University of Colorado. Or is it?

Adding to weekend reports that the Texas legislature would try to keep CU out, The Denver Post notes that the lawmakers will pressure the University of Texas to force the Pac-10 to include Baylor in any expansion plans or face funding reductions.

If Baylor and the Texas strongmen are successful in keeping CU from the new Pac-10 table, CU could end up going to the Mountain West Conference to join Colorado State University, Wyoming, Air Force, and several other regional teams.

Boulder’s Daily Camera reports that a move into the MWC is a distinct possibility for CU, something that could be seen as a step down from the current Big 12 status for the Buffaloes and as definitely less preferable than being part of the conference that includes perennial powers like Texas and Oklahoma.

However, the Camera also points out that the Big 12 remaining intact is just as likely, especially if Nebraska and Missouri also don’t move to the PAC-10 Conference. For its part, the MWC, whose leaders met Sunday and Monday in Jackson, Wyoming, has decided not to make any quick decisions about its own expansion possibilities for the time being.

“I think the way we’re describing it is ‘to be continued,'” conference commissioner Craig Thompson tells the Fort Collins Coloradoan. “We want to see what the Big Ten and Pac-10 and other people do, and we’re leaving the door open to revisit the topic.”
