Next to New York, Denver is the second-most-popular city when it comes to where Americans would like to live. Actually, the Mile High City is tied for second with San Francisco. It’s the best ranking Denver has received in the 13 years of the annual Harris Poll, reports the Denver Business Journal. Denver has never previously ranked higher than number four, and last year was number nine in the survey, which simply asked people where they would want to live if they didn’t live where they are now. The other top cities were (in order): San Diego, Seattle, Chicago, Boston, Las Vegas, Washington, and Dallas. As for states, Colorado is number five, behind California, Florida, Hawaii, and Texas. “This is much more than a beauty contest,” states a Harris press release. “The most popular states and cities where large numbers of people would like to live tend to attract tourists and business. They are places where people like to take vacations and where companies like to have their offices and factories.” Meanwhile, The Daily Beast gives us yet another ego boost: In its survey of smartest cities, Denver comes in at number five, behind Minneapolis-St. Paul. The Beast’s first such rankings were determined by the number of degrees (undergraduate and graduate) held by a city’s residents, as well as non-fiction book sales, the number of institutions of higher education, and how many eligible voters cast ballots in the last presidential election.
