Avid skier and photographer Adam Dennis specialized in shooting exceptional action photographs and video on the slopes. His ambition to capture the perfect shot on April 4 likely led to his death, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. Dennis was the fifth of five skiers riding the bowls west of Highland Ridge near Aspen that day, and he apparently came too close to the skier in front of him as they traversed the bowl. The fourth skier is said to have caused the avalanche, but Dennis was close enough to get sucked in and killed (Aspen Times).
Dennis’ death is the sixth in Colorado this winter due to avalanches, a fate that can befall even the most experienced riders. Take it from Danny Ferrari, a Frisco snowboarder, who nearly died in an avalanche on April 1 (Summit Daily News). He was riding backcountry terrain near Arapahoe Basin when, before his rescue, he was caught in an avalanche for nearly 45 minutes.
