Hiking fanatic? Welcome to the club. Many Coloradans routinely log several miles (or many more) each week in the summer—but now is your chance to make those miles matter.

HomeAid Colorado is spearheading its second year of Hike for HomeAid, a fund-raiser to support its housing development program, which provides safe and dignified housing for families in need. The organization directly supports families and individuals whose lives have been dramatically affected by events, like a veteran returning from war, job loss, death of a family member or spouse, or a medical crisis, resulting in temporary homelessness.

This summer-long event started earlier this week, but the first of three Ambassador hikes, planned by HomeAid Colorado, will take place on Saturday, June 25 at 9 a.m. at the Panorama Point Trail in Corwina Park. The three-month hiking extravaganza also encourages you to carve out your own trails. Participants can visit homeaidcolorado.com/hike to register, invite friends, create a personal fund-raising page, and then log some miles. Participants can track miles with their preferred GPS system (thanks FitBit!) or at mapmyhike.com.

At the end of the season, those with the most miles hiked, most funds raised, and most social media shares will win prizes. You can also “like” HomeAid Colorado on Facebook for more chances to win. With about 200 participants last year, the hikes are projected to garner an even bigger crowd this summer. Blaze the trail solo, or gather a team of pals, family members, or co-workers to cheer you on along the way. Now get moving!

Get Involved: Registration for Hike for HomeAid is $25 for individuals, $250 for teams up to 12, and $500 for teams up to 26. Additionally, each participant is encouraged to raise at least $100 to support HomeAid Colorado.
