Emily Stewart is a talker. She’s one of those people who you can meet at a coffeehouse on a rainy day and lose track of time listening to her chatter. The 23-year-old can talk about recently finishing her undergrad degree at DU, babble about improving her Spanish, and prattle on about moving to Chile. It’s all interesting. But Stewart’s jabber becomes compelling when she talks about her recent struggle with an eating disorder and her treatment at the Eating Recovery Center’s adult hospital last year. She explains her obsessive exercising. She talks about her days at the center, where her movement was monitored so she didn’t expend too many calories. Her narration of her own life is fascinating. So mesmerizing, in fact, that her suggestion that I check out her blog led to a three-hour reading session. It turns out Stewart’s written words are even more captivating than her spoken ones. Sometimes funny, sometimes contemplative, Stewart’s exploits in the blogosphere are a voyeuristic adventure. Here, one day’s entry to pique your interest. Morning Muffin Saga, Pt. 1

Morning Muffin Saga, Pt. 2

(5 minutes later) Dear Muffin, I am sorry I spoke to you that way. I know that eating you will help me to gain weight, which will propel me toward my recovery goals. I unfairly impose my warped food paradigms onto your sweet, sugary self. I love you, Muffin, and will gobble you up.

Morning Muffin Saga, Concluded

Dear ED [eating disorder], you are not in a muffin. You are not in pasta. You are not at the gym. You are in me. And I don’t want you there anymore.
