When I found out Rackhouse Pub abuts Stranahan’s Whiskey, I was blindly sold on the place—a notion that only grew stronger when I discovered the beer of the day, on special for $3, was Odell’s Red Ale.
The spacious pub is lined by kegs, a seemingly endless bar, and smiling young bartenders flanked by bottles of the beloved local whiskey. I ordered the aforementioned Odell’s Red and scanned the beer list. It’s almost entirely local, and breweries from Bristol to Great Divide to Avery are represented with several brews each.
As one bartender told me, “We just want you to drink whiskey and beer.” And the patrons seem to do just that, as crowds of young professionals chatter about craft alcohol. I obliged and tried a Manhattan made, of course, with Stranahan’s whiskey, and after the waitress dropped off my cocktail she came back by and topped off my drink with more whiskey.
Yes, that’s right: A bartender returned to add more pricey booze to my cocktail. And with that, I was smitten.
Happy hour at Rackhouse runs from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and includes $1 off Stranahan’s (just the whiskey, not the cocktails) and drafts of beer. Beer of the day goes for $3.
