If you thought latkes were just for Hanukkah, think again. In fact, re-thinking the latke is exactly what Tina, Dina, and Steve Shander, did when they opened Latke Love, a sunny, modern deli in Park Hill.

Located at 28th Avenue and Fairfax Street, Latke Love is the Shander family’s brick-and-mortar answer to their popular food truck. In the new digs, the latke—which is based on an heirloom recipe from the Shanders’ grandmother—is treated as an entrée instead of a side. For each dish, four plump, shredded potato pancakes serve as a base to innovative and generously portioned toppings.

Try the Oy Vey Caliente (pictured) topped with spicy pork or vegetable green chile, sprinkled with cheddar cheese, and crowned with a fried egg. Or go heartier with the Baleboostah with slowed-braised brisket, Guinness gravy, roasted carrots, and a sprinkling of parsley. On the lighter side, opt for the Manhattan with wild-caught smoked salmon, capers, red onion, and dill cream. Of course, there’s always the traditional: house-made applesauce and a dollop of cinnamon-whipped cream.

Sip this: a Sprecher Fire Brewed Soda in orange, cream soda, or root beer.
