Vickie and Jeff Corder have spent years refining their grandmother’s recipes and peddling an array of baked goods at metro area festivals and farmers’ markets. Now, at Grammy’s Italian Goodies’ first brick-and-mortar location—a bright little spot across the lake from Lakeside Amusement Park—the Corders have expanded their repertoire to include a full menu of Italian favorites such as pizza, lasagna, meatball sandwiches, and my personal favorite, Jeff’s Original Cannoli.
Although most think of cannoli as dessert, the Italian favorite can also be re-imagined as a savory entrée. Jeff’s Original Cannoli eschews the traditional sweet recipe and instead wraps half a pound of mildly spicy Polidori sausage, coupled with fresh mozzarella and a whole roasted Anaheim pepper, into a yeasty, buttery blanket of homemade bread dough, then bakes it to golden brown. The dish resembles a calzone in flavor and is big enough for two.
Located just off I-70, Grammy’s Italian Goodies is handy enough to grab lunch or dinner on your way to or from the mountains.
