The countdown to Christmas is on, and gift shopping is in full swing. But finding the perfect present for all the special someones on your list can be stressful, especially for those of us, like me, who have procrastinated on hitting the stores. Enter MIGHTYkarma, a shop that offers a variety of one-of-a-kind gifts—and where purchases help a good cause.
The design studio/pop-up shop (the store was opened in just 30 days and will only stay in business for a couple of months) celebrates “creative warriors”—aka American artisans and master craftsmen—and is dedicated to featuring hand-crafted, unique pieces, most of which are made in America. Shopping at MIGHTYkarma is all about mindful consumption; every item has a specific use and a story to tell, either about where it comes from or the artist who created it. “Their goods evoke a powerfully positive thought, word, or deed in the world, resulting in an extraordinary reaction,” says Warrior Princess, one of the women behind the business.
Plus, the store supports causes like the Denver Dumb Friend’s League, the Challenge Foundation and the Cottonwood Institute, with 100 percent of the proceeds from certain items benefitting them.
Need some tips? I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite items:
1) This signature bowl (pictured, top left) was fashioned by Logan Wannamaker, a Taos, New Mexico–based artist. His work is functional, decorative, and embodies the colors of the Southwest. $30–$325.
2) Three Turkish brothers bring their individual design aesthetic to the Bora Jewelry collection (pictured, right). Expect a wide variety of styles. $40–$400
3) Peace Bomb bangles (pictured, left) are made in Laos from unexploded Vietnam War bomb materials. Buying just one bracelet clears three meters of bomb-littered land. $40–$60
