On a routine business trip to China, Gianni Vecchiarelli accompanied a factory boss on what he thought would be an entertaining night of karaoke. Instead, he was taken to a room and told to “order” from a line of girls. Heartbroken by his firsthand encounter with human trafficking, the Castle Rock resident and his wife, Betsey, founded Set Them Free, a nonprofit that raises money for the International Justice Mission and the Wildflower Ranch, a recovery facility in the Colorado Springs area for survivors of human trafficking. Since its 2013 inception, Set Them Free has raised nearly $100,000. On October 4, Set Them Free will add to its fund-raising total at the annual Justice Run at Littleton’s Hudson Gardens. Runners participating in the 10K, 5K, or kids’ races can pick which of the approximately 20 nonprofit partners, including Set Them Free, gets their entry fees—so no matter who wins the race, there will be no losers.
