While the Broncos prepare to take down Seattle, thousands across Colorado and beyond could use a little Mile High support. Here, four ways to show your team spirit this week.
Kick hunger to the curb: The alleged Velveeta shortage might not have put a dent in your Super Bowl plans, but for thousands of Colorado families, hunger is a serious concern. In conjunction with the big game, the NFL is hosting a party with a purpose in Brooklyn and encouraging fans across the country to participate in the Kick Hunger Challenge. All money donated goes directly to the Food Bank of the Rockies, which distributes more than 100,000 meals every day across the Rocky Mountain region.
Cultivate leadership: Indulge your sweet tooth at the Chocolate Odyssey, a three-course meal celebrating the mystical powers—or at least the amazing taste and surprising versatility—of cacao. You won’t be spoiling your taste buds arbitrarily, though. Chocolate was chosen as a representative cash crop of Guatemala, where SERES, the event’s host, seeks to develop future leaders in the country’s youth. Wed, 6:30-9 p.m.; 1031 33rd St.
Donate: The key to saving lives resides in your bones, and you can put it into action at Colorado Technical University’s bone marrow drive. The event, organized as part of the National Marrow Donor Program, seeks to find suitable donors for individuals, especially children, battling leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood diseases. Wed, 3-7 p.m.; 3141 S. Vaughn Way, Aurora.
Wear red: Don your best red attire to celebrate 30 years of work by the Colorado AIDS Project. The night of wining, dining, and dancing pays homage to all those who have committed their lives to improving those of the afflicted, but it’s not just a retrospective. CAP still serves thousands of Coloradans living with HIV and AIDS. Sat, 6-11 p.m.; 2001 Colorado Blvd.
