The cold, desolate landscape of Antarctica is almost void of human life—and the few men who have learned to survive there have done so in the most unusually creative ways. In his latest film, Encounters at the End of the World, German director Werner Herzog captures the people of that bitter continent.
The documentary, which plays for free tonight at the Central Library, follows a linguist in a land where there is almost no language, a woman who contorts her body to fit into a gym bag, and many other unique individuals. Take a seat and see how the world’s southern-most continent shapes the lives of men.
Bonus: Karen Joyce, the contortionist featured in the film, will attend the screening and host a post-movie Q&A.
