It is that time of year again: Independence Day. While we love history (and our country), we especially appreciate the way this holiday brings neighbors, friends, and strangers out of their houses to enjoy BBQs, sports, and sparkling fireworks. There’s no shortage of ways to enjoy your Fourth of July weekend on the Front Range—here, five ways to celebrate.

1. Park Hill 4th of July Parade

The Park Hill community parade is back. For the fifth year in a row, floats, classic cars, bikers, acrobats, and marching bands will cruise up 23rd Avenue from Dexter to Krameria streets. The parade promises a patriotic punch with plenty of red, white and blue—and maybe even an ode to independence with a Benjamin Franklin or Betsy Ross lookalike in attendance. 2. Independence Eve Celebration

A symphony of fireworks will erupt following a patriotic-themed concert featuring MIX, CU Denver’s a capella group, and the Hazel Miller Band on Independence Eve. Food trucks will be onsite and picnics are welcome, but keep seating to low chairs or blankets.

When: July 3, 8 p.m.

Where: Civic Center Park

3. Outlaws versus Cannons

Spend your Fourth with some Outlaws. Denver’s professional lacrosse team will take on (and presumably crush) the Boston Cannons and celebrate with a spectacular pyrotechnics display following the game.

When: July 4, 7 p.m.

Where: Sports Authority Field at Mile High

4. Go 4th Festival

This two-day festival includes a pig roast, car show, beer garden, and carnival games, followed by fireworks at dusk over Lake Estes. Arrive early on Friday and help yourself to a pancake breakfast.

When: July 3 and 4

Where: Estes Park and Fairgrounds at Stanley Park

5. Black Hawk Boomtown

The Boom Town Band will take the stage on Friday evening near Black Hawk’s main street. Make sure to stay for the fireworks.

When: July 4, band 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., fireworks around 9 p.m.
