Raise your hand if you’ve ever made a New Year’s resolution to go to the gym more often or to get fit. It’s not exactly shocking after holiday parties, lavish meals, and nights of merriment that trump mornings on the treadmill. According to Statistic Brain, losing weight was the number one resolution in 2012, while staying fit and healthy was number five. But guess how many Americans succeed in keeping their resolutions? Eight percent. Pretty dismal. The numbers and research vary on fitness resolutions in particular, but the general outcome is the same: Scores of December-bought gym memberships go unused in January, and gyms and trails are back to normal crowd-levels by February.
There are two explanations for this: 1. Commitment issues-slash-laziness. (Meh. Weak excuse.) 2. We don’t have enough cute workout-wear in our closets! For the ladies out there, we’ll go with the latter. Let’s be honest: You’re in a crowded gym with a bunch of fitness buffs under a cloud of exercise endorphins; it’s unrivaled people-watching and Lycra-scoping, and it’s tough to get amped about that unless you’re feeling good about how you look. So, as people start to make their get-fit resolutions, we’ve rounded up a few Colorado-based activewear lines to motivate you and perhaps inspire some holiday gifting. Splurge a little—it’s worth it to keep your resolution.
Aaluuka: Want to go from the office to the gym to cocktails without schlepping three bags with you all day? Denver-based Aaluuka’s Studio 2 Street line (pictured) is an all-in-one option. Driven by her on-the-go lifestyle, founder Kellie Lundgren figured out a way to mesh comfort, performance fabrics, and trendy shapes that work just as neatly under a blazer as on the elliptical. Halter necklines and one-shouldered tops that “can handle a hardcore workout as effortlessly as an upscale dinner out”? Yes, please.
Gaiam: Founded nearly 25 years ago, Boulder’s Gaiam is a lifestyle company geared toward sustainable, organic, natural living. Products range from yoga instruction videos to home goods to clothing, and you can’t get more yoga-goddess than these garments. Airy, bright, and comfy, the fabrics are eco-friendly and functional, from organic cotton camis to slimming recycled-wicking-fabric running pants. No matter your style preference—flowy and loose (we love the drawstring cargo pants) or fitted and flattering—these guys have plenty to choose from, and they know their bodywear.
BornFit: Three things you should check out in the Wheatridge-based Bornfit line: 1. The Fitness Collection Elyse Jacket (love the asymmetrical zipper). 2. The Colorado Collection—moisture-wicking fabric in Colorado’s colors, boasting the state flag logo. And 3. The Maternity Fitness line. For all you mamas-on-the-go, there’s no better way to look cute with a belly.
