One-hundred-and-thirty-six medical marijuana dispensaries will receive the first batch of state licenses that will allow them to begin selling recreational pot in the new year, according to a list the Colorado Department of Revenue’s Marijuana Enforcement Division released this week.
Denver has 102 of the licenses, though places such as Aspen, Breckenridge, and Pueblo also have at least one businesses among the original group. The Denver Post reports that 178 cultivation facilities and 31 pot-infused product manufacturing facilities also received state licenses.
That doesn’t mean the recreational pot shops will all open on January 1, though. The Post reports that only eight shops “have so far cleared all the hurdles in the local licensing process,” which could be an onerous task for some business owners. A list of newly licensed shops can be found here. (h/t Eric J. Lubbers, Boulder Daily Camera)
