This summer, chef Rob Rotella and partners Jenni Peterson and Rick and Debbie Reeves, turned Olde Town Arvada’s Woodburn’s Deli into Fire & Ice Bistro. The novel concept delights visitors with flaming entrées and drinks and liquid nitrogen-chilled desserts. The sleek, modern dining room includes a demonstration liquid nitrogen alcove to showcase the dessert-making process.
The excitement begins the moment you set foot in the dining room, which is roped with cool blue lighting and warmed by a fireplace hung over the bar. Entrées flamed tableside light up around the room while clouds of liquid nitrogen billow over the counter in back where pastry chefs work their magic.
Icy desserts, like the vanilla ice cream-stuffed beignets drizzled with raspberry sauce, are the best of Fire & Ice’s offerings. And don’t miss the creamy and crunchy candied maple bacon milkshake or the Campfire, a s’more-inspired vanilla shake. However, on the fiery side, the 12-ounce rib-eye flamed tableside, stumbled a bit with overcooked sides. Opt instead for a straightforward burger, topped with your choice of spicy condiment (try the ghost pepper aïoli) and served on a ciabatta bun.
Fire & Ice is gimmicky, yes, but the fanfare can pay off if you order right.
