DONNA KARAN FASHION WEEK 2009 NEW YORKKaran’s approachable brand of polished, city chic will appeal to working women with its long, lean silhouette of feminine, tailored separates. Her terrific outerwear deserves special mention, particularly a graphic black-and-white plaid, double-breasted coat and a taupe, three-quarter sleeve number. The Gist: On the runway, Karan played up her silhouette right from the start with a graphic flame-orange and black opening of slim pencil skirts paired with turtlenecks layered under long or short sleeve jackets–all emphasized at the waist by a wide, black belt. Karan gradually introduced neutrals like grey and brown, as well as green for an additional pop of color. Striped knits and pattern mixes (like plaid with subtle animal print) add a touch of playfulness to a very covered-up and ladylike look. A short series of wool jersey dresses with sweetheart or off-the-shoulder necklines gives way to expose bare skin at the décolleté. Look for It Next Fall At: Saks Fifth Avenue, 2900 E. First Ave., 303-393-6333 More photos from the runway:
