Calling all ethically-minded fashionistas: On Friday, Boulder-based nonprofit BeadforLife is hosting a kick-off party for its spring Opportunity Tour. This nationally recognized program helps train Ugandan women in skills they can use to make a better life for themselves and their families. Participants learn everything from how to handcraft colorful, beaded jewelry out of recycled paper to tips on launching a sustainable business. Party-goers will have the chance to meet special guests Joan Ahimbisibwe and Teddy Namuyiga, two former beaders (now businesswomen) from Kampala, who will share their stories about overcoming poverty. All will enjoy the music of singer and activist Maya Azucena (pictured).

Details: Friday, April 5, 7 p.m.; eTown Hall, 1535 Spruce St., Boulder; $10–$35, etownhall.frontgatetickets.com
