As with any large-scale international event—especially one with live TV broadcasts to 750 million global viewers—police will be on high alert during the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships. Beyond the backpack checkpoints and FBI surveillance cameras around Vail and Beaver Creek, authorities are implementing the “See something, say something” motto. More than 2,500 event volunteers have been trained to spot and report suspicious behavior during the event. Although Vail police chief Dwight Henninger insists the operation is “not very James Bond–ish,” Vail has installed 21 new cameras to bolster the FBI surveillance and will use the town’s police gym as a command post to monitor the action.
